Overall Cleanliness - Concours judgment vs. Flight Judging Instructions

For Overall Cleanliness (at the end of each non-OPS judging category), should Concours "overall cleanliness" be handled the same as when Flight Judging?

Instructions in the Technical Information Manual & Judging Guide (TIM&JG) say "Do not deduct for slight amounts of road dust, oil seepage around seals and etc." I think I am guilty of being more fussy during concours judging.

The judging sheets for concours have this, for 20 overall cleanliness points.

Tom, I tend to agree with you. At a concours d'elegance how many 1910 vintage cars were driven there. They are immaculate inside and out.

Lot's of flight cars are driven to the event, so some road dust is expected.

I beg to differ about Flight cars being driven. At the just concluded Florida Regional 41 cars were judged and 40 trailers were registered. One owner drove a 1954 from the Atlanta area to be flight judged. IIRC it was around 600 miles. He received a justly deserved round of applause for the longest (and only) driven Corvette. He received an equal round of applause for his top flight award, but he was the exception.

Good for him, actually driven 600 miles. I almost thought these cars are only for display. Nice to see others actually drive them.

Terry, not only did he drive 400+ miles but some of it was in the rain. I help judge the mechanical on this car and it was spotless and very correct I would have never guessed he drove it to this meet. Hats off to Mark the owner for driving it that far, I know his back was killing him.

I thought, when they announced the longest driven award, they said he drove some 600 miles; but I was fatigued and the acoustics in the hanger were far from optimal. Regardless how far he drove, my hat is off to him. I just looked at the outside of that car and it was spectacular. To even consider driving a 1954 that distance on today's roads with the usual drivers out there is brave.

IIRC there was a fellow with 2200 mile 1974 who drove it from Miami, so I am not sure how the judged cars and trailers registered numbers work out. I missed something somewhere.

Regardless, it was a great show and a lot of effort by the Florida Chapter. It was an added treat to be with Carlisle Productions. There was a lot to do with enough variety to satisfy everyone.
