    1966 L-36 427 390HP Intake Bolts

    Hey Guys,

Sure could use some help from all 1966 L-36 owners that feel their engine intake bolts are factory originals.

Just had a discussion with fellow '66 427 owners about production intake bolts. The L-72 425HP owners feel that flanged lip recessed hex bolts are correct for their aluminum intakes. Typically "FP", "A", or "C" head marks. Maybe others?

Is this also the correct application for the L-36 390 intake bolts? Or do the cast iron L-36 intakes use flat hex head bolts?

Please respond to this thread if you feel your intake and bolts are original to your L-36 '66. Photos would be excellent!

    Thanks,
    Mike

OK, let's try this one more time!

Any 1966 390HP 427 L-36 owners out there? Sure would like to hear what you've got!

I've always seen/heard that the L-36 has the flanged head style bolt like the L-72 intake has. The reason I'm inquiring is that my buddies are telling me the new '66 Judging Manual says the 390HP intake has flat head hex bolts. My originals were missing when I bought the car 30 years ago.

I don't have a copy of this. Has anyone else read this? Anyway, it would be good to hear from fellow L-36 owners just the same.

Finally gonna make it to the NCRS Winter Regional in Lakeland, Florida this year. Really looking forward to this one!

    Mike

      Re: 1966 L-36 427 390HP Intake Bolts

My 67 390/427 has "indented hex head with integral flange" bolts in the intake manifold. There are multiple examples of this in various photos for the 67 BB, in the new 67 Judging manual. On the 67 390 the bolts are painted engine color. Paragon sells these...….

        Re: 1966 L-36 427 390HP Intake Bolts

        Thanks Stephan,

Yeah, I've always expected to see indented hex head with internal flange bolts on both '66 & '67 big block intakes like yours.

The question I had to '66 L-36 owners was to report what bolts they have on their intakes due to the information in the '66 Judging Manual. My friends and I were just curious if this was an error in the Manual or if there was any merit to this?

I bought a set of real restored "FP" flanged intake bolts with the correct large letters. Beautiful! Gonna be a shame to spray orange paint on them. Paragon's repros are close but I always look for the real deal if I can find them.

Yes. The flanged FPs are correct

            Is your '66 a 390hp or 425hp 427?

1966 L36. I researched this very question last year. I talked with the 66 and 67 mech judges and this was the conclusion. I think you're good to go with the flanged FPs. Good luck.

Much appreciated. One final question. Is your L-36 a factory AC car?

                    Hi.

Is there anyone who can help me with a photo or copy of the intake bolts in the new 67 Judging manual?
I will assemble my intake next week and I want my bolts to be correct.

I believe these are typical production-style bolts.

"M" was a production headmark for several C2 applications, so that might be a production bolt. I've often seen the FP's, but an "M" might be correct too. Several bolt vendors supplied bolts.

Thanks Tony and Orjan for the great closeup shots. My restored "FP" bolts are identical to Tony's. Large letters. Repros are a little off. Nice "M" head marks Orjan. I collect bolts and I have an assortment of flanged lip recessed hex intake bolts. Head marks are "FP", "M", "A", and "C". Probably others. Still researching history and application. Those "FP" and "M" are a sure bet!

Gonna be away for a few days at the NCRS Winter Regional in Lakeland, Florida.

                            Thanks for responding,

                              Hey Guys,

Just got back from a great 3 day meander up and across Florida. Back down in south Florida now. Whew!

Well, the NCRS Winter Regional was a lot of fun. Still going on. My first one. I missed out when it was held in Kissimmee. Gonna try to make next year's in Lakeland for sure.

Anyway, just before heading for Lakeland I stopped by fellow NCRS member Skip Steinmann's place to see his special car. It's a 1966 L36 390hp 427 factory AC coupe. Trophy Blue with Dark Blue interior. Stunning car! It was a privilege to see this car.

Skip has owned this car for 51 years! I had many longtime questions answered looking at his car and discovered a few new items I was unaware of. It was a distinct pleasure to meet Skip and his wife. Very cordial folks.

Here's a closeup of one of Skip's '66 390hp 427 intake bolts. All of them identical and original. Recessed hex head flanged lip "FP". Mike
