The Gear Vendors OD is a great addition to your 62, you must actually drive it so I wouldn't worry about judging.- Top

Re: 1962 corvette trans
I have not purchased one of there overdrive units yet, but I am planning on doing so, since I drive it. I am waiting on my Carburetor to come back from Harms Automotive in WA. state. he is the guy that does all the carbs for Graveyard Cars. That is the only thing that's keeping me from driving it now. Any way go to the Gear Vender's web site check them out. There is NO modifications that have to be done to the car to make it work. It just bolts in, in place of the original T-10's tail shaft. You do have to get a little shorter drive shaft, but according to them it doesn't hurt the angle. I looked at the Tremec style of Transmissions - but with them you have to cut the ash tray for clearance. Shorten the depth of the ash tray. Plus they cost $1,000.00 dollars more that the Gear Venders unit and handle the same amount of torque as the Tremec. I hope this info helps some of you guys on your decision on which one to get if you are looking for an overdrive for your car. Bottom line - go to each trans supplier web site and look to see what they have. And decide for you self. If I was going to get a Tremec style trans I would get one from Silver Sport Transmission mainly because they have the offset shifter that will fit into the stock hole in the floor and look natural. Here again do your home work and check each one out to see which one works for you. Thanks for the feed back.- Top

Re: 1962 corvette trans
Are you sure it is that simple?
Reverse is part of the tail shaft on the BW transmission and the GV-OD doesn't have a reverse, so some version of the BW tail shaft has to stay. The tail shaft is replaced with an adapter and then an extension and then the OD goes onto that. It has to be significantly longer than the BW. The kit even includes an extension so the speedometer cable will reach the output of the OD. This should be close to the extra length the OD will take up. Longer will change the drive-line angle to a more acute angle but both joints will change the same amount at both ends, this may be just fine for this reason. Do they have pictures of one installed in a C1?
I would confirm the return policy just in case.
Here is a picture of the kit.

Re: 1962 corvette trans
I agree with Richard this whole unit is a lot longer than the 12 inches that is advertised. I really like the instillation guide that says you Might have to put a small DIMPLE in the tunnel for clearance! That will be interesting with fiberglass. I also believe your drive shaft angle is going to be affected. I also like their reasoning that why take out a great 4-speed and replace with a weaker 5-speed. T-10 transmissions are not that strong and I find it hard to believe a 60 year old T-10 is stronger then a Tremec 5-speed that a lot of muscle cars came stock with! But gearvendors has a really good marketing department. WE know a Tremec fits in a Corvette, I have had mine for 5 years, show me a picture of a gearvendors in a C1. You hit it on the head Carl, better do some more research and ask yourself why no one else has done this?- Top

Re: 1962 corvette trans
Hi every one, I am here tonight to eat some crow and apologize for putting some wrong info on the board here. I took my own advice and called the place and talked to a human instead of just reading there web. I talked to one of there techs, and he said that the trans would absolutely not fit a C1. It was too big for those cars. I stand corrected on this subject, there was no harm intended, I just had my facts wrong. Next time I will make sure I call an talk to a human. Sorry to every one that responded to this post, carl.- Top
