Early 63 FI fuel filter - painted silver or plated?

Early 63 is same as 62 I gather. Later 63 part is painted black.

Years ago I bought one for my 63 that was cad plated and had a groove in the nuts on both ends. Now I bought the current supposedly best repo GM endorsed part that does not have the groove in the nuts, which I gather is correct. But the can is painted silver and not cad plated.

Does the factory installed part have a cad plated can or is it painted silver?

The '63-'64 TIM&JG says: "Most applications use a semi-gloss black AC type GF-90 fuel filter with white silkscreen printing.....However AC type GF-90 fuel filters with silver bodies and red silkscreen lettering have been observed in both '63 and '64 original cars and should be considered correct". "Each end of the filter body has a smooth hex fitting without any grooves around the nut perimeter"

Got it. But my question is the original silver can painted or plated?

I would guess plated. But I am not sure about that.

John: your photo of a silver filter, labeled NOS, is not NOS but rather a NORS piece. the notches wouldn't be present on a NOS or a production filter. Mike

Dr. Mike, I have a small collection of the orange/black boxes of NOS silver red letters GF-90s that include the fitting kits for the '62's.
All of them have a slight sign of notches. Have you seen NOS ones Doc that don't have the notch?
We don't use the term NOSR enough. So many NOS parts are just replacement parts as we all know. Thanks, John

                  I stand corrected. Thanks Mike.

I am down to my last NOS black GF-90 box. No notches.

                        Reproductions from Corvette Specialties.

                        This is a new, reproduction GF-90 Fuel Filter for 1963, 1964 and 1965 Corvettes with 327-300, 327-340, 327-360, 327-365, 327-350 and 327-375 horsepower engines.
This filter has been painstakingly reproduced in exacting detail. Correct dimensional and cosmetically, including the correct fonts (duplicated with negative of original filter printing), and the correct end fittings WITHOUT the notches. Research has shown that the production line installed filters do not have the notches on the fittings. Until now, the filters that were available were the service part silver filters that were painted and silk screened, or another black reproduction filter that is not very accurate. Sometimes owners were even sold black GF-90 filters that had the notches filled in to get through NCRS or Bloomington judging. Be sure to look at what you thought was a correct filter; it probably has the notches!

                        Pricing is about $45.00

Since the original question is about EARLY 1963 FI Fuel Filters the answer could be found via John DeGregory as John has seen more early versions of 63 FI's as the rest of the entire membership.
Thank you John for your years of experience.

Wow! That is an excellent reproduction, including the box. Dead nuts on to my last remaining NOS one. I wish I had paid that little for it.........

When Brian received a batch that contains blemishes, he puts them up on ebay at a reduced price.
