C2 Valve Cover HP Decals... which is correct?

Attached is a picture showing a 300 and a 350 horsepower water soluble decal. One has the "Printed in U.S.A." and the other doesn't. Which one is the correct decal? The 1965 TIMJG, page 104 shows one with the "Printed in U.S.A." on it.

    Thanks,

Jim, I am glad you asked that question because I have noticed that too. The older 300 HP and probably the others did not have the "printed in the USA". I don't know for sure, but I suspect it is a way to avoid any GM licensing fees by not producing them exactly like the originals. I have my original 300 HP valve covers with the original decals on the sides and they do not have this statement. I tried to order some "without" the extra pricing from Chicago Corvette because they had them on ebay and they did not have the extra printing. I told them not to send if they had the extra stuff and they notified me that they only had two of the old ones and they would turn to dust if I tried to apply them, so they cancelled my order. There may be some out there somewhere, but you will have to look for them if you don't already have them. Based on my originals, I say the ones without the extra ink are the correct ones.

My originals didn't have the extra info. and they are available from most every vendor for about $5 a pair. https://www.paragoncorvette.com/p-35...it-300-hp.aspx

If you have the "Made in USA" I would bet a black sharpie would get rid of that pretty quickly...

Don't forget they also come in two flavors:
The water release ones and the glued on style.
My glued on style lasted almost 200 miles and 6 months.
Go for the water applied ones for the best life and closest to "original" style.

Jim, have you recently purchased these? Although I don't know about Paragon, I do know that many of the vendors such as Paragon are using their old photos, but the actual product has changes to the ones with the printed verbiage at the bottom right. I am sure there is no ill intent in doing this, it's just that it would be too costly to go into their website and change out the photo for such a small yet to some significant change.

Garry, I believe I got them from Paragon but that was several years ago. A quick phone would verify if they changed.

That's kind of my point in that the old ones without the extra stuff on the bottom right hand corner have been used up and the newer ones are being sold, but not pictured accurately by the vendors. I believe Jim Osborn used to supply these to many of the vendors, but I believe he died back in the late 90's and not sure of the current status of these decals. I know his business is still in operation because I called a few weeks ago about the original metal plate decals for the top rectangular application. They do still have some of those at $12.50 a pop, but I didn't ask about the water soluble decal for the lower side of the valve cover.

When you buy the water soluble decals buy two sets of them. Some times when you put them in water they are not usable as curl up.
MF Dobbins used to sell nice valve cover decals in the old days. If you use ones you made in the printer or they are thick repos that glue on expect a deduct. John
Don't scroll down and read my old posts on decals as not worth reading as I could not get the same answer twice then.
