    PO2 Hubcaps Gouge Your RIms

I'm getting ready to repaint my rally wheels and put the PO2 hubcaps on. My other car has PO2s as well and they really have gouged the paint right down to the metal in some spots where they attach. Realizing this would happen I used some duct tape which helped a bit without compromising solid attachment which I know is very important with these heavy hub caps.

Am wondering if anyone has come up with any ideas on how to minimize the rim paint damage when running PO2s?

I think I'm going to have the wheels powder coated black and then scuff up the front and paint with the available Rally Wheel paint hoping the underlying powder coat may hold up a bit better.

Judging by the weight of a PO2 hubcap they were probably engineered to gouge the rim to keep them on the car.

Actually, my '63 and '64 hubcaps also gouge the rims, but when they are on, you can't see it anyway.

The attachments on rally wheel center caps and trim rings "gouge" the wheels, too.
