    Schwitzer Fan Clutch Rebuild Opinions

I replaced my fan clutch on my a/c equipped '65 coupe several years ago due to slow speed cooling issues with the a/c on. The fan clutch pictured is a later (1967) dated Schwitzer design. I replaced it with GM service replacement Eaton design clutch and have not had any further cooling issues.

I plan to have this car flight judge in the near future and wanted to know who would be a reputable re-builder. I'd like to send it to someone that may be willing to swap this 1967 dated clutch for a 1965 clutch say mid-May of 1965 (5-21-65) as a target date. Has anyone been successful in working with a re-builder to obtain a correctly dated clutch or should I ask for an Eaton core that can be date stamped?

    Thanks,

    James West

Dan Kirkconnell will fix you up. In the Driveline.
ps, your 65 clutch should not have any date on it.

Check with Dan re. dates. He will know.

      Don,

Thanks for the reply. As for the clutch dating, I'm only going by what is written in the most current 1965 TIMJG, Chassis Section, pages 200 and 201.

      Regards,

      James

I agree with Don, Kirkconnell did the Schwitzer clutch for my 65 small block car. The date was stamped on the back of the mounting flange so once installed, it could not be seen. I've also seen 65's with the date stamped on the edge like the pic. above.

          James:

Agree with others regarding who you should use as the rebuilder. He may be able to swap out your 1967 clutch for a 1965clutch for a small amount of $ or perhaps no $.

Rebuilder is also an excellent welder, or has access to this skill. Worst case is prior to rebuild he welds over any numbers and then machines it back to typical.

Kirkconnel doesn't make good on his mistakes.
Keep that in mind when using him.

Purchased a clutch from him that should've used bolts to attach to the fan blade.
                It arrived with studs.
Called him about it and he wouldn't honor the mistake.
I had to remove the studs and install helicoils since the bolts are a different thread count then the studs.

Rick, What's the application for your fan clutch?

That particular application was for a January built '70 LS5
