So I've done a search, read, just want a little hand holding re oil gauge conn leak

    Hi,

So, discovered in the process of removing the clock... yucky, but nothing shows, at least not yet, on the carpet... Inside the gauge cluster things seem clean. So:

    1. Cut tube CLEANLY!
    2. deburr
    3. Fit new ferrule
    4. Press tube and ferrule completely into connection.
    5. Double check
    6. Tighten fitting

Am I missing anything (besides my mind, lost that years ago).

    Thanks! Ed

Check your supply tube to ensure it is copper coated steel rather than plain copper. If plain copper, even if you tighten enough to seal, it will creep and leak later. Proper Steel tube is one and done.

Like most lessons, I learned this the hard way. Kept tightening until ID was a pinhole a gage response was impacted.

          Hmmmmm. Interesting. 1970.

Might someone have a picture of another installation? I'll check my AIM to see what it shows...

          Thank you! Ed

            Yes, that's a C3 connection.

LOL, and here I've just spent about 45 minutes searching thru my very lousy AIM, just finding that it does show an elbow... So tomorrow I confirm the line is steel, and then get a new ferrule and, eventually, hopefully, determine that I don't need a Dutch boy's finger...

              Thank you!

Any suggestions other than oil dry to attempt to get the oil off hard surfaces?

                Ed,

Hold on, weren't the C3 lines plastic? Sorry if I sent you off on a C2 tangent. Never worked on those newer cars so I'll be quiet now.

Yes, C3 oil pressure lines to the gauge were plastic (nylon).

If I had been asked I would have said black plastic. The line is not copper coated steel, it is non-magnetic.

Thank you all for you help! Ed

PS: I see that the plastic line is readily available. Under the circumstances, might it be advisable to replace the 90-degree elbow as well?

                      Hi Ed,

I have the same issue going on with my 64 Coupe. It is a very slow leak and I get a dab of oil on my parking brake handle over time. Could you be so kind as to give me more detailed steps on how to fix? Is this a lay on your back in the drivers foot well looking up kinda deal or do I need to slide the cluster out on some long bolts to work with the back of the gauge?

                      Thanks,
                      Jace Holt
