Gary, I have seen guys use plastic sandwich wrap as a temporary protection works good.

I've used a product called Con-Tact, clear transparent transparente, in a roll - Home Depot. Just pull off before a show and toss out.

I've used the clear package sealing tape,about 2" wide.

I believe that Paragon sells this protector, I purchased a roll from them about a year ago. They also have an application for the door handles (stops finger nail scratching of the paint when grabbing).
