    60 Door Lock Linkage

I am re-assembling the lock / latch assembly and it appears to me the outside lock (keyed) linkage is bent. (I could pull the other side door panel and check it but thought I would try here first.) See the picture below - I am referring to the horizontal arm on the assembly in the circle. I have the linkage from the lock assembly inserted into the arm but the retaining clip is not installed. Is it bent? Thanks, Don H.

Hi Don. Based upon your photo, I would agree with you that it is bent. I have a spare re-plated RH door latch mechanism and the arm on that one is is on the same plane as the base plate and the actuator arm above.

I suspect the rod, not the arm, is the bent critter. mike

It's bent - look at the pictures in this article by David Zuberer for a '60 door latch...

Don, Additional info here with a Dave Zuberer pdf (post#6) with some photos that may help. Also info on the key cylinder lock rod while your in there.... Rich

PS Note that the above pdf is in the Sticky "Database of Restoration Documents" also.

Edit.... I also just noticed that the lock cylinder release lever is reversed between the documents(above pdf vs the 60 pdf in the earlier post by Frank). This has also been a confusion in the past. It will work either way. The issue is that in the assembly(per AIM), the lock cylinder "cannot" be installed in the door before the lever is attached to the cylinder pivot. The cylinder levers can be swapped from left door to right door..... But the orientation of the rod entering into the cylinder pivot will be reversed. This allows the cylinder to be installed in the door before the rod.

              Don,
Agree the arm looks twisted. The rod end looks as if it was heated being dark. Also the notch looks deep as is the clip wear into it. As I recall the lock in place feature is at the tip of the rod. Not visable rod tip on far side in photo. I have also found the green clips (I think original) are harder and hold better than the black one’s (I think Repro or replacements).

I’m going a lot of this on memory so consider that and the price you pay for it...........
