*** Early 1968 spare tire (rim) question ***

    Hello all,

Just curious - would an early model '68 leave the St. Louis factory with a DC rim for a spare tire??

    Thanks in advance.

It would have the same seven inch rim as the other four.

Hello Russ. Hope all is well with you. Thanks for replying to my thread.

Am I correct in assuming the "DC" rim is for a 1967 Corvette (15x6)?? There is no date code stamped on the rim - the "DC" is stamped in large letters by the valve stem hole. Not sure how this spare found its way into my 1968s' spare wheel tub - it was there when I purchased the car in 1993.

It didn’t get in there by it’s self...... obvious some time prior to 1993 somebody put it in there.

I have owned several 63-64 and several 65-66 Corvette steel wheels over the years and the date codes were stamped on the rim part of the wheel where they could not be seen with a mounted tire. I also have owned several 69 and 70 Z28 and SS steel wheels where the date code and 2-letter identification code was stamped by the valve hole. I have never owned a 1967 wheel. Is it possible that the date code on "early" 1967 "DC" wheels was stamped on the rim part of the wheel hidden by the tire and the "DC" stamped near the valve hole?
            Dave

If I'm not mistaken, Grant Wong wrote an article years ago about date codes on '68 AG wheels. Date codes were stamped on the inside of the wheel up to about December 1967. After that, the codes were outside.
