    62 FI tach cable

As the NCRS FI guy I am suspposed to know most everything concerning FI. My answer machine has the following question on it waiting for me to reply.

Is the dimple on the pass. side or drivers side of tach cable hole in the firewall.
    Thanks very much, John D.

Hi John, hope you are nice and snug from that big snow hitting you.....
I think you knew the answer before you forgot it.
I saw this on another Corvette Forum, and the guy said he larned it from you....
"Another supposed FI indication is a "drill dimple" on the left side (looking at the fire wall from the front of the car) of the tach cable hole for a FI car and on the right side of the tach cable hole for a 340 car."

      Re: 62 FI tach cable

Hi Don, Thanks for the only reply here although I got two replies by phone. One from Barry Holmes and one for Jerry Bramlett
Here's how I explained the dimple to a NCRS fellow over the phone.
The hole with the dimple closest to the passenger side is not used on a FI car tach cable.
Another way of saying it is like yours. Standing at the front of the car looking at the firewall (pretending the hood wasn't there) the dimple not uses is on the left side. Not sure I like that because I had to explain that several times on the phone.

Snow has not hit us yet Don. Haven't spend a penny on my big driveway on snow plowing this year. But it's coming this weekend.

Meanwhile the poor guy that called is very disappointed with the answer to his question.
No it's not Dr. Mike. who asked the identical question in 2005. I actually looked in the archives. Can you believe that friend?
      Thanks, John

        John-
I don't understand the description either way you say it, but then stiff axle cars are Greek to me. But, glad you now know the answer, again.
Now, what can we do about these old codgers that will not get with the program and write a post on the TDB?
We got about 2" of white down here NE of Richmond. About half melted one day later. It's all good!
You take care and keep helping those guys with answers to their FI questions.

There were two dimple in the cowl used to drill tac cable hole. The drive side hole for FI and passenger side hole for non-FI. So non FI cars have the remaining dimple on drivers side and FI cars have the dimple on the passenger side. Philip 8063

Philip, I was getting ready to answer when your post came thru. Very clear & concise, thanks, you hit the nail on the head.

              John

Was away from my computer over the weekend so I sent you a message from my phone showing the FI dimple and it's location. Since you didn't acknowledge it then or in your post above, I thought I would add one more reply to your thread,

I know the question has been answered very well but I thought I would post the photo in case some members may not be familiar with these dimples and what they actually look like.

Must be a '62 thing as I don't have a dimple on either side of the seal on my '60 290HP

Non-FI '60 and low HP FI had generator-driven tachometer. Only solid lifter FI '60 had distributor driven tach. So no need for two locating dimples on the firewall.

Jerry, Thanks very much to you and everyone else here. I have pics buried here and have answered the question correctly before when asked but I forgot. Much appreciated. John

Thanks Phil. On my bulletin board I have," '62 FI cars have the dimple on the passenger side of firewall"
