1965 Air Coupe at the Mecum Auction

I noticed the air deflector on the top of radiator support on this '65 L79 equipped with A/C that will be auctioned at the Mecum Auction tomorrow. I have the exact same optioned '65 other than mine is Glenn Green. My '65 has been in the family since the mid 1970's and is mostly un-restored. I've never seen the air deflector on top of the radiator supported. I would assume this is an add-on device to aid in cooling. Anyone ever see this before?

    Regards,

    James

It's a rubber seal across the top of the radiator to ensure tight air flow through the radiator, not an air deflector.

65 non-air big blocks had something similar.

Don't have this rubber seal on my late build (July '65) AC small block coupe either . . . . .

I got one from Paragon and modifird it to fit my 63 A/C car to help with the cooling.

Although it must have helped seal for airflow, its main purpose was to silence hood rapping/flutter against the 396 rad support.

Thanks for the info. Wayne. Mine was built 50 cars after the implementation of that update.

Very interesting, I didn't know you could get A/C with the 396.

Ah, OK, so they had the A/C style rubber seal across the top of the radiator, but no A/C. Got it.

                              Michael,
Different style completely. Look at the picture in post #5 of the 396 seal. Hope you and your family had a blessed holiday season. Happy New Year.
