Holley rebuild - shaft bushing question

I'm rebuilding a service dated List 3367. This is not a numbers matching carburetor and not an expensive carb, but I needed one for a project car.

The primary shaft was pretty loose. I measure about 0.014 play up and down on the throttle linkage end measured with a dial indicator. From what I can glean, this is way to much. I know that there are a few places I can send it and have the base reamed and brass bushing installed.

But I just took the shaft out today and I put two of the nylon strip bushings in the recessed area of the shaft on the throttle linkage side and that really tightened it up.

I know the nylon strip bushings are really supposed to be used on the secondary shaft.

Is it OK to use them on the primary or should I send it out to have it reamed and bushed?

    Thanks,

    Don Harris

Don check with Carbjunkys in Georgia. They sell repair kits for shafts or can do it for you. 770-457-8570 and they sell on ebay.

Thanks Mike, That's what I needed to know.

I was surprised how much the nylon bushings tightened it. I was just concerned about wear on the primary shaft.

The exploded view I have for the 4150/4160 shows the "ribbon bearings" on the secondary shaft only in the diagram. But in the parts listing (190) they are called "Throttle Shaft Bearing (Ribbon) Primary and Secondary".

If you haven't watched Herold's bushing install video you should. He shows how to do it and keep the bushings in line.

BTW I have Herold do my carbs and have have always been happy with the results.
The body coloring is spot on.
