63 late gas door - Coupe

I've gotten tired of looking at the peeling on my gas door. I ordered a new one from Trim Parts and it does not fit. The section where the screws mount the door to the bezel is completely different. The holes are smaller and in a different loication. My recollection is that section of the part changed in very late 63. My VIN is 200XX. I pulled the pin and swapped that section and the Trim Part door now mounts just fine.

Has anyone else had this problem?

    Cheers and Happy New year

    Harry,

Here's a couple of bezels. One is an early 63 Coupe and the other is a late 63 Roadster Slider.

There are 4 different bezels and all of them with regards to the holes are exactly the same.

And the Trim Parts Doors will fit all of them.

You sure your old junker hasn't been hit in the rear?

My late 63 coupe repro door went on perfectly Harry.... IIRC it was also Trim Parts (I seldom buy shiny bits anywhere else)...

The one on the right is the original. The one on the left is Trim Parts. Note the larger holes in the original and the different location. The larger holes and location allows the door to sit just a but higher and not hit the bezel.

When I judge 63's I look for the larger head screws attaching the gas door.

JR, the car was not hit in the rear.

Fixed the problem. I removed the gas door, bezel and j-nuts. Cleaned up the area, cleaned up the j-nuts and put a coat of black on them then reseated them all the way up. Reinstalled the bezel and the Trim Parts door and everything fit. The problem was the alignment of the j-nuts with the holes on the fiberglass.

The door is still the wrong configuration so a 20% point hit on the door should be expacted.
