    63 Hood Release Handle

I'm refinishing the hood release handle on my '63 and haven't been able to get good definition on the recessed white lettering. I've tried a few methods (spray semigloss black- allow complete drying, then spray white and wipe off white overspray with mineral spirits)
Just looking for tips on better ways to refinish recessed and dash bezel raised lettering. Thanks

    Joseph,

A product called a "lacquer stick" is made to do exactly what you are attempting. The stick is semi-soft and, as you rub it around and over the recessed letters, it will ooze in to the recesses. Once you have the letters filled, wipe off any of the material on the surface around the lettering. Let the lettering sit and it will harden and become permanent.

Lacquer sticks are available from many sources. Here is one:

I use the lacquer sticks on the hood release and parking brake handles - they do quite nicely.
Clip a bit off the end of the stick to get fresh lacquer and rub it in well into the letter recesses and wipe it off lightly...
I used the same technique on Navy aircraft cockpit controls for years...
