    1967 trim tag anomaly...

Here's to a speedy recovery Vinnie.

I am looking at a '67 convertible that has been owned by the same family since '68. The owner has passed and his family is looking to sell the car. A very original unrestored car. Original paint, interior, drive train etc... Here's the puzzle...the trim tag style line says 67 437 (coupe)....Am I missing something? Could an incorrect trim tag been installed at the factory? I didn't discover the anomaly until I got home from pictures I took. I'll be going back to re-inspect the tag.

      Re: 1967 trim tag anomaly...

Does the tag look like it has ever been of the car? does the VIN confirm it is a convertible? If it has never been off and it is unrestored as you say then its probably a mistake. On the other hand if it was totaled when new and built back with pieces prior to their purchase in 1968 it could appear to be an unrestored original all these years later, you just have to do your due diligence and sounds like you are.

Thanks for the input Roy. The car has never been in an accident so we'll just have to assume that it was a factory mistake.

Are there any other mistakes on the tag?

No, everything else checks out. Same family ownership since '68 so the car has never been messed with according to the family. 38,000 original miles.

For what it is worth... I recently saw an original conv. ('65) tag with no date code.

Typos on trim tags is a thing. I have one on my car too. Trim tag says "66" and it is very clearly a 67.

Mike I agree with that in general...in this particular case I do believe it is a factory error. there is no reason or evidence to suggest that the trim tag has been replaced. If it had been replaced then why the body code mistake.

Very interesting. I was hoping someone would confirm that they have a car with an error on the tag. Thanks Chris.

FWIW, always best to verify the VIN stamped on the frame. JMTCW,

                            NICK:

I stated that in Post #2. It has happened many times in the past. In addition to here, the CF C2 Section has reported this in past years, and there are threads in the archives over there to confirm if you search. One was a guy from Detroit who is a frequent poster in CF. He posted pics of his Trim Tag with the error(s).

Agree with Roy and others, that you need to do your due diligence. Trust but verify.

If it's a factory error and it probably is, just embrace the fact that it's an unusual car. I have a '67 with a factory anomaly and I think it's a pretty cool thing.
