Were the black lines on the speedometr bezel Gloss or semi flat Black?

Dan, are you referring to the arcing indentations on the lower portion of the bezel?

If so, on my unrestored '57 there is no evidence that they have ever been painted.

My engine is original, but I'm not certain whether the water pump is. And it has been overhauled. With that in mind, the bolts in my water pump have lock washers.

I'm still not clear about these lines on the speedometer bezel. The '56-'57 Judging guide makes no distinction, and though I know Noland's Restoration Guide is not considered entirely correct, the one good picture of the bezel it contains (page 156) clearly shows the lines I'm referring to as unpainted:




I know another member has a Bowtie '57. Maybe we'll hear from him. Again, my bezel (mid-run VIN) has no paint, and the paint on the rest of my dash is original.

6th Ed JG states "Circular grooves in bezel have black paint strips." Accompanying picture shows and points out same. No comment regarding gloss level.
