1967 small block stamp pad question

I picked up a decent engine (or at least I think so) for a good price. It was out of a 67 Impala SS and is a Tonawanda casting. The casting is 3903352, casting date is E297 and assembly stamp is T0612KL (275 hp, Turbohydramatic).

The Pad looks to be untouched, however, there is no VIN stamped on the pad.

Were there some assembly plants that did not stamp the VIN on the pads?

it was not until the 68 model year until all engines got a vin stamp. until 68 only "High Performance" 300 and above advertised horse power engines got the vin. and all Corvettes

Over the counter long blocks during the C2 era had the engine assembly date and engine suffix, but no VIN stamp. It was later, IIRC 1968 to so, that these would have been CE stamped.

Yes, only "high performance" engines got a VIN stamping in 1967. You don't mention the intended use for this engine, but keep in mind that Tonowanda small blocks were not used in Corvettes.

There were a few Flint-assembled Tonawanda small block castings used in 1965 and 1972, perhaps other years too.
              However, none were Tonawanda assembled.

I have a 1970 Camaro SS350 3970014 Tonawanda block (300 HP) block and the VIN is stamped on the driver's side of the block near where the oil filter mounts.
