Best source for standard black '69 steering wheel

    Guys,

I'm looking for a std 69 black vinyl steering wheel. The vendor I use states theirs may not pass judging and I'm guessing these are the wheels that all the vendors sell, whether they issue a similar warning or not. Is that the case? Or does someone sell a wheel that matches the original?

I know of no reproduction 69-75 steering wheel that's not easily detectable as non-original.

Thanks I'll give David a try. Is there anyone who can restore them? My steering wheel turned soft and gummy after sitting in my shop for the last 15 years.

I can sell you an NOS one in the box, but I would rather you would first try scrubbing your old wheel and see if that fixes its ills.

Mike, I will be dealing with this same problem. What do you think the wheel should be scrubbed with?

            Thanks Bob

I have used lacquer thinner. Also Dawn. Also Totally Awesome. All needed elbow grease and all worked.

Out of curiousity, what are the detectable differences between the repro and original wheels?

For one thing, unless something has changed, the surface texture of the wheel is very noticeably different from originals.
