    '72 LS-5 Belt question

I looked through my AIM tonight for the part number for the water pump to a/c and A.I.R. pump belt. That combination doesn't seem to be in the AIM. Not looking for a GM belt, just a replacement. Anyone know the size? Part number for the original would help if the size is unknown so I can cross it over. Thanks!

The original part number was GM #3921905. This was a belt of 49-1/2" length and an oddball 15/32" width. GM replaced it with a belt of 49-1/2" length and 7/16" width. It's discontinued, too, but you should be able to find such a belt pretty easily in he aftermarket.

Thanks Joe, one clarification. Is the 49 1/2" dimension the effective length or circumference? Thanks!

I do not know. GM never specified in parts information what convention was used. However, I think that the difference between effective length and outside circumference is close enough that for this application it will make no significant difference.

Thanks for the belt size. Going to finally pick one up today and put it on later.

Since owning my car I haven't had an A.I.R. pump on it. Since there is adjustment on the pump and the a/c compressor, is there a specific procedure to tighten the belt??
