How to apply 69 under dash sound deadener

    Guys,

Looking to apply the under dash sound deadener on my 69 coupe non AC car. The AIM just isn't that clear to me. Is it glued to the actual bottom of the dash pad? Or is it affixed to the top part of the firewall? Thanks for your help. As for glue, I'm thinking of using trim adhesive. Any thoughts?

Mike, its is attached to fire wall, I think the trim 3M adhesive is my choice, I also believe that there are a few rubber plugs that go through the front lower carpets that hold the sound deadener in also. at least that's the way my 72 is.

Mike, Ed is correct. Also, you will want to make sure the largest piece goes on before the heater core/heater plenum. I got mine from paragon and had to do some t******* to make the piece under the heater plenum to fit. I did put a little bit of glue on mine, plus the rubber plugs are a real PIA. I used a phillips head screw driver, with some tape over the head of the screw to help prevent driving it through the plug, plus a large washer on the shaft of the screw driver and a small vise grip to hold it in place. Not exactly high tech, but it was effective. There are several threads on putting those rubber plugs in that are worth reading. I also put a bit of dish soap on the outside of the plug to give it some lubrication during installation.

Thanks Richard that will be really helpful. The heater plenum is already in place so I'll have to work around it but the suggestion of how to get the plugs in will no doubt be a big help.

I will let you search for it, but John Hinckley posted a picture of the factory tool in a thread about installing those rubber plugs. This was not a tool one can purchase, but one that was made at the assembly plant. As I recall it was easy enough to make oneself, so get with it.
