    Rag Joint repair

Looking to repair my '66 Corvette non-tele, manual steering rag joint. Has anyone used one of the kits offered by vendors ? Does anyone provide this service to NCRS Specs ?
    Thanks,
    DFA

I am going through this now on a 63 - the issue is obtaining a decent rag carcass; the 7-layer rags like Long Island used to supply are no longer available and what IS available is pretty sorry if you want safety and originality. Also the kits have their own issues beyond the rag (and don't address problems with worn splines in the rag metal housings if that's your problem). Here is a Jim Shea article on the kits and some tips. In my case I found an NOS coupler and bit the bullet and paid the eye-watering price:

        Thanks Bob,
I just bought GM # 5690809 Flange Assy. Is this the correct number for a '66 non-tele, manual steering car ?
        Thanks,
        Steve

Yes, that's the correct GM part number for the 1963-66 NON-TELE STEERING COUPLER ASSEMBLY.

Do you know if that comes with the ground strap attached and if not how do I attach the ground strap ?
            Thanks for all your help.

Pretty sure they come with the ground strap attached....a simple check with an ohmmeter from the lower to upper metal housings for continuity should confirm this.... This is my NOS coupler on the 200 ohm scale meter setting...
