    Which Engine Plant

Is it known for sure which engine plant this is? Or are these engines being off loaded at a car/truck assembly plant? If the latter is it known which engine plant these V8s are from?

Same questions for the below photo.

Dan: Railroad Car says "New York Central". I'd vote for Tonawanda, NY. No distributors in the second photo...

      Dan,

Terrytown NY plant photos look similar to the engine one you posted.

Just to make things more interesting I pulled up a map of the old New York Central System and it shows a route up through Flint.

Gary is right, that top picture is labeled "Engines as received at Tarrytown Assembly Plant, 1959"

If we accept that this is the Tarrytown NY assembly plant, is it known which engine plant they acquired their V8 engines from?

My wife was the second shift Nurse at Tarrytown and she says it sure looks like Tarrytown to her.

                    Re: Which Engine Plant

I would say it was most likely the Flint engine plant, since they built 45 million V8s.

Yes that's the GM plant in North Tarrytown, NY from Life magazine. I worked there as a Manufacturing Engineer in the Body Dept from 1985-1995.

I'm asking in an attempt to find the facts, not mere speculation based solely on quantity. Someone else might speculate that Tarrytown received their engines from Tonawanda because it's 250 to 300 miles closer depending on the shipping route. Little is learned by shooting from the hip.

Sometimes it pays to do your home work. As I said shooting from the hip and not thinking as you say is not likely to yield the desired result.
