Muffler blackout
Where the mufflers painted with the tips and clamps on? Did they get any overspray on them?

What color were the mufflers painted ? I see some good pictures in the STICKY POST section; Nostalgia Pictures that show over spray on the undercarriage of a 67 going to Body/Chassis marriage at the assembly plant. Same frame on 67-68 corvettes. I doubt the assembly process changed from this. I never knew they painted the exhaust mufflers. -

Bottom and sides of the mufflers were blacked out to avoid a shiney from back and side underneath. The tips and their clamps were not on. Traces to varying degrees of black out exists on the fiberglass tire tub. This was not an “artful” practice and is not pretty.Comment

Here is a 15k mile 71 LT1 one side has blackout on the entire muffler and on the tire carrier, the other looks like the muffler doesn't even have any...

Picture of an original early 69 muffler that the inlet side rusted apart and fell off. This is the top side of the muffler.
This picture is the bottom of the muffler. Note the outlet is painted.
If they used a spray gun, reached underneath the car and sprayed away, not only did the spare tire tube get blackout on it, some, if not most, the rear end suspension got overspray over it as well. If you look at the previous posted picture, you can see the blackout on the ends of the spring and I suspect lots of the other pieces also.
