    "67 A/C compressor numbers

Some help please identifying the last set of numbers on this compressor. If I remember correctly the top set of numbers is the casting date (K22 - November 22) and the second set of numbers is the part number (6555302). My question is what does the final set refer to...the alpha and two numbers (L 16). Additionally, I understand that to be correct for a particular car, the foil label date must precede the assembly date of the car...by what amount of time...a few days, a few weeks? Thanks.

    Leif:

Perhaps the L 16 is a mold number. It appears to be cast at the same time as the 6555302 casting/part number.

My 1967 car, VIN #14845 was made on March 28, 1967. The AC compressor foil able shows the compressor was assembled on January 26, 1967.....second shift (012672). This is two months before the car was built.

I have been told that during this early time for air conditioning, the Corvette AC compressors were batch produced. This will then manifest itself in various intervals between compressor build and car build. Could be a few days and could be a few months (as in my case).

My car is a low mile (27,000 mile) fairly original car.

      Larry,
Thank you for your response. It will be interesting to see what others may think that number indicates.

          Leif:

Finally had another chance to check my A6 compressor on the 1967. The back plate has number 6555302 same as yours. My date is L 1 6 or December 1, 1966.........or December 16 (1966). Not sure about which one is correct. Based on yours, probably the latter date is correct. Our Judging Manual does not comment on the date format. This puts it about 6-8 weeks prior to the A6 compressor build date of January 26, 1967.

I also have another number cast into the rear plate that appears to be R 1 (or perhaps K 1). It is very difficult to read, and this number is located between the upper casting date and the lower casting part number. Therefore in a different location than the one you show.

          For what it's worth..................
