I'm not sure if the way I do it is correct. I start all lines including the one to the fuel pump and tighten them so all the play is out of the lines, but can still move a little. Snug the line between the 2 blocks, next the one at the rear block to the rear carb, then the carbs, rear to front, then the line to the pump. After buying both steel and stainless lines from multiple vendors, make sure the flares are consistent with no deformations or scratches, or nicks, or obvious out of roundness.

They all fit well. It was a matter of which ones seeped fuel. One seeped at the pump, one seeped at the first block. I have a mix and match between inline and classic in steel. Both stainless sets I bought got returned. Make sure whomever supplier you use, verify the flares do not have any irregularities. The last fuel pump line I got, I bought used and it doesn't leak. I'm sure all the vendors get them from either of these two companies.

With the stianless lines I have had much better luck if I "lap" them together prior to installing.

using a slight amount of never seize or white lithium grease on the threads, wiping min on the bevel - In my hand I snug each fitting finger tight... spin the line a few rotations in the block and then twist the fitting snug with fingers again and repeat... Then move to next line position - seems to make the harder stainless concentric or polishes the slight anomalies in the mating surfaces, with mild steel lines I never had problems, however for the last 10 years I have used the same trick on mild as well.
