It appears the top portion of the ground clip on my ignition shield is broke off or missing. This is an L76 motor in my 64 with Vin #5592. The rivets on top of the shield appear to be plastic/nylon. In looking thru the CC catalog part #SKU 472011 appears to be the proper replacement. Also, there is no ground on the back of the shield, just the slot for what appears to be for a shield when you have fuel injection. Should there just be one clip on the front and it be the one shown in CC catalog?

Re: 64 Ignition shield ground clip
I think you are referring to the ground clips that “claw” on the distributor and air cleaner or the plug on manifold depending on how one slips on the shielding. Not really an issue as the car is presented for judging with the shield removed. They do get bent up easily. Yes one in front and one in rear.
I have no idea what CC catalog presents.- Top

Re: 64 Ignition shield ground clip
Here is a complete clip.
note: the build date does matter, your shield with plastic top rivets is the latter design. Changes seemed to occur in March and April 1964, the early units used metal rivets.Attached Files- Top

Re: 64 Ignition shield ground clip
On 63-67 SB ALL TOP Ignition shields have the front clip which grounds to the Air cleaner. Also, on the back of the ignition shield there is an additional clip and is present whether you have FI or a Carb. The front is riveted to the shield and the rear snaps into one of the slots provided on the top shield. It grounds to the tach cable connection.

Re: 64 Ignition shield ground clip
I just received my new clips today and it is not bent the way that Alan's pic shows above. Are the teeth supposed to be facing the air cleaner lid and biting against it? The holes on this one do not line up with my shield. My air cleaner is the 365hp one with the big openings.- Top

Re: 64 Ignition shield ground clip
John,
Take a look at Noland Adams book page 166 which lists the various numbers for the front clip. Then on page 167 for the first two front clips.
The picture I posted was the unit which came on car however I now believe it was replaced due to the grounding problems of the top metal rivets (Past owner had problems with the TI unit so makes sense that the dealer would replace with a top cover with plastic rivets.) I'll try to find my new repo cover and look at front clip.- Top
