    Wayne,

Does your car have the original stencil?

      Gary,

Just traces of it I found during restoration. Not a good enough look to base brush or spray painted stencil. At the time of restoration I followed the TIM & JG.

        Mike,

The judges want to see something that gives them the impression it was rolled and not sprayed, e.g., some horizontal paint texture from slopping rolling. Don't go back and forth, up and down like you wood if you were paining your dining room wall trying to make the rolling direction undetectable.

And the edges of each character would likely be slightly raised. I know that the original stencil on our 54 is that way.

            Tony,

The raised edge is probably where the paint catches on the stencil. I think that should happen naturally when rolling, since it obviously happened when GM rolled the stencil.

Exactly! That is why I mentioned it.

This is great information, thanks for all the input. So it's anybody's guess if mid- OCT to mid-NOV builds had hand written or Stencil pull dates? Thanks Joe

                  Joe,

There is a 1+ month gap in my database from Oct 7 for a car with a grease pencil date, to Nov 10 for a car with the date incorporated into the stencil. I'd love photos of additional documented original stencils for the '66 model year in order to fill in the chronological gaps.
