    1957 windshield washer pics

Would appreciate a closeup picture of the two cable connections to the wiper motor and/or a detailed drawing. Unclear on whether the cable from the dash switch engages with a clip on the plastic actuator or just pushes against it.

    Any help appreciated.

      Re: 1957 windshield washer pics

Thanks David. Couple of questions: I've blown up the pics and I can't quite see where the little disk on the two wires is located. I've assumed the top disk is slid into the slot on the actuator side of the u-shape bracket. Where is the bottom disk located - actuator side of the top cable's bracket or cable side of the top bracket? Am I right that the bottom (dash switch) wire just pushes against the plastic edge on the actuator? Hope you can decipher what I'm asking! Thanks again.

Kent I am trying to find you a picture to answer your question.
        In the meantime
Both captive disc are to turn off the wiper motor.
Bottom cable captive disc must pull actuator off.
Does that help answer your question for now

I was afraid that's the case which means the disc would be on the actuator side of the upper bracket. It looks like the end of my cable has been broken - it's too short to extend that far and the disc is now loose on the wire. In searching the typical vendors it appears they have a "rebuilding service" for the switch. Any idea if this is something that could be done at home? I always prefer to work on my own stuff.

Kent I would recommend Capital Auto Restoration for any wiper motor repairs. Jay Maxwell should be able to give you any info for a repair.
You might try getting some slack in the cable and removing some of the outer cable to gain some length on the wire. I would first try to get some repair suggestions from Jay
I believe he is on the DB and may chime in

Thanks Dave for all the advice. I've finally got it all working now. I had purchased a restored 991 slow park wiper motor to replace the passenger car one that was on the Corvette when I bought it. Had to install the washer attachment to the wiper - long story short I needed to change the small plate that attaches to the top of the motor along with the u-shaped bracket that attaches to the plastic actuator (the one on the restored motor was microscopically longer than the one I had on the passenger motor). Wipers wouldn't shut off when activated by the washer pump. I really appreciate your patience in stepping me through the geometry on the cables. My last '57 had a washer system that I got working but of course I didn't have any closeup pics and couldn't remember what I had done to make it work. Thanks again!

I sent you an email with a diagram of how the cables attach to the wiper motor.

Is the ignition resistor on the firewall supposed to get hot while the engine is running?
