Does anyone know the correct length of the studs for the grille. When I had my car judged, the exterior judge said they were too long. When I disassembled the grille for re-chroming, there was a mis-match of studs and threaded rod cut off to retain the teeth. I bought new stubs from Paragon which are 1/4 x 20 x 3 3/4 in length. I have all the original retaining plates with "AAC" stamped in them. I was also told by another mater judge that the nuts used to retain the teeth had a captured washer/nut versus the nut and lock washer as described in the assembly manual. If anyone has a non restored car could check this out it would be appreciated. Thanks

I have two '59's here and looking at the AIM I think the judge may be right. I would have to dig deeper1954 Corvette #3803 - Top Flight 2012, Bloomington Gold 2012,

Re: 58-60 Grille teeth stubs
Chevrolet Special Information Catalog (10-1-61) lists 58-60 grille bars (teeth) as being attached with:
1/4 - 20 zinc nuts part # 124818 and 1/4 - 20 zinc lock washers part # 120380.
Both of these items were also used on 53-57 grille bars (teeth).- Top

Re: 58-60 Grille teeth stubs
I've got the nut and lock washer info, but I'm still looking for the stud length. In Noland's book, the stud does not have a part #. Could this be part of an assembly and if so, there must be some specs to what the correct length should be.- Top

Re: 58-60 Grille teeth stubs
i went to the barn and have two complete 53-57 grills. i removed a couple of the studs that thread into the grill teeth. these studs are 3 3/4" long. the threaded end that screws into the teeth is threaded 7/8" of that end of the stud. the end that secures the grill teeth to the horizontal bar is threaded 7/8". There exist 2" of unthreaded stud centrally. its been my experience that the 56-7 exterior judges may be incorrect in their judging of these studs. the couple of 57's i've duntov'd since 2010 have had a deduction for incorrect stud length protruding past the lock washer and hex nut. there is no doubt in my mind that the stud i measured for you are originals. mike- Top

Re: 58-60 Grille teeth stubs
Thanks Mike. I did take apart a 60 grille for a friend of mine and it had the original grille teeth that needed to be re-chromed. Those studs are 3 and 3/4" as well. I think I'll aske the team leader to confirm that yours and mine are correct.- Top
