Mid Year Head Light Motors

Do original head light motors have a date of manufacture on them. How can you tell if they are NOS. I have two motor assemblies that I have had for over 30 years. I know when I bought them I was told that they were NOS and were never installed.

Steve, Yes originals will have a date stamped in them with the month and year.
Ex. 11 66. As far as NOS over the counter I am not sure. Jeff

I have a pair of NOS Delco head light motors that have never been mounted or used and they DO NOT HAVE ANY DATE MARKING as production line one get.

In fact the motor cases are bare steel but the screws are plated. Guess GM wanted to save the extra cost.

Gene, mine are just like yours no date, motor cases are bare metal and screws are plated. Both of mine are left side and have never been mounted to a car. I bought them from a friend who used to work at Rochester Products.

My original 1966 motors have a date stamped into the motor and also have a yellow ink stamp on the motor housing with a julian date.

Just as a note, I see your motors have been rebuilt with White Lithium. White Lithium hardens over time and will be the cause of the motors to fail. There are many more modern lubricants that will work and keep working thru the years.

Thanks for the note of caution on the Lithium grease.
I considered using Mobil Polyrex EM. This is a synthetic grease that will not harden over time.
However it is a bearing grease and somewhat on the thin side of what I expected.
I thought it might leak as these gearboxes are not designed to be sealed. LOL.
Lots of areas for water and junk to enter.
Do you have a lubrication recommendation?
