Some of you might have seen my recent post regarding my struggles to get replacement bushings pressed into the strut rods of my 69. Because my struggles were largely unsuccessful, I ordered additional bushings from a different source. The outer shell of the new bushings have a slightly smaller OD. Although I haven't yet tried to press them in the strut rods, I can insert them a few millimeters into the holes by hand. I couldn't do this with the previous bushings.
My present concern is about the ID of the bushing inserts. Below are the relevant dimensions:
Original = .635 Vendor 1 = .629 Vendor 2 = .658
The OD of the original rear shock shaft is .616. The OD of the original cam adjustment bolt shaft is .497.
Because of the large differences in size of the original bushing insert ID and the bolt OD, is it safe to assume this is one case where size doesn't matter (on either end of the strut rod)?
If this is a bad assumption, can someone direct me to a vendor who might have bushings with appropriate shell OD and insert ID?
Thanks folks,
Mike
