    65-79 pinion gear nut availability

Does anyone know the current GM part number for the pinion flange nut and whether it is still available at Chevy dealers? I am assuming the nut was probably used on other GM vehicles as well. I would prefer not to reuse the old nut since it has locking properties.

The pinion nut was GM #3752901 but it's discontinued. It's easily available in the aftermarket.

Patrick you can get a new one no problem but if yours is in decent shape you can clean the threads, use Loctite #271 and stake it afterwards to keep in place. When guys replace the pinion seals they reuse the nuts most of the time and have for years, the 271 and staking will hold it tight.

I was going to try the loctite 271, but since the rear is still in the car, there is not much room to work for staking it. I found one sold by "GM Genuine Parts" on a website called Carid. I hope this is really GM (it used the logo) rather than a Chinese knockoff, because it burns me to pay $11 shipping on a $8 part.

I tried the local Chevy dealer who didn't have any left, and the local parts store who couldn't get an aftermarket nut in less than a week.
