Corvettes at Carlisle 2018 - NCRS

Just returned home from the 2018 Corvettes at Carlisle show . . . my wife and I took seats in the grandstand to watch the 11:00 AM presentation on Saturday by the NCRS demonstrating the judging of two modified Corvettes, one in each class for the new Concours Judging for modified cars. I thought they did a great job of explaining the process to the very interested crowd, and many of us went down to the cars at their invitation to get a closer look at the actual judging while it took place. Each group of judges took the time to interact with the crowd, while at the same time respecting the owners by not allowing any spectators to touch the cars. Many great questions and answers were exchanged, and I think everyone learned a lot - I know we did. This can only be a good thing for both the NCRS and for the predominantly younger owners of these types of cars that the club is attempting to attract. I would call it a win all around, and a hearty WELL DONE to all.

Is there a manual for this sort of judging?

I am a positive thinking person. And you know what I do. Since NCRS started this class it will improve my sales pitch over the phone defending our wonderful club.
It was great seeing so many NCRS members at Corvette Carlisle. So many from the DB came up to talk to me.
I thought it was one of my better shows. Actually I know it was. Take care and thanks again, John

Not that I know of, but I will let more learned minds answer definitively. I'm not sure how that would work - to what standard would cars be judged, when they are all different by the owner's design? It was explained at the Carlisle show that each car is judged according to what the owner intended it to be. WHAT the owner did is subjective, and would be difficult (in my own opinion) to judge . . . beauty being in the eye of the beholder, etc. But HOW WELL the owner did it is a different matter - workmanship and build quality can, in fact, be evaluated. It's going to be interesting . . . and hopefully, fun. The crowd at Carlisle certainly seemed to enjoy it.

There isn't a manual for this group of cars. The judging process is still in the formative stage.

            Hey John,

How many of those Restorods had a FI unit that you built????

            Oh, None huh!

Looks like some people are taking old junk Corvettes adding an LS engine, suspension, stereo and having a good time zooming down the road in comfort with killer looks.

How old did you say you were anyway? Yeah, me too!

...they aren't just doing this to "junk" Corvettes either. Saw more than a few(more like 8)cars that were past NCRS National, Regional, Duntov Award cars that were turned into "restomods". Not something I would do, but to each his own. Maybe they'll bring them back for this "Concours" judging?

I was informed the judges use the current JG for your year of car. They do not deduct any points for originality. They are looking to see if the cars are complete with no gaping holes/unfinished. The phrase "Owner Inspired enhancements" was stated. I am unclear on much more than that.
example: I removed my clock and used this opening for one of my A/C ports. I left my original wonderbar out and installed a modern wonderbar with Bluetooth to listen to music from my phone/ipod. These are just a few of my owner inspired decisions I made.
