C2 door won't open help

So I've removed the door panel and removed the metal plate to get some access to the door mechanism and tried everything to find how do you alllow the star to free wheel - as always any help would be great

The latch looks functional from limited picture - looks to be in locked position (obviously, lower rod may need to be disconnected if lock cylinder not functional and inside release has been disconected ) then push upper plate to open door
Is the body off the frame where the latch/door has become jammed against the striker?

Keith, remove the latch from the door and ensure it works. If it does the problem is most likely the rod from the door handle. I have seen them wear 3/8 of the metal away from use. If that is the case just replace the door handle button.
