1978 Radio eight track/radio switching problem

I am getting my '78 sorted out for judging. Radio was working. I tried the eight track, which worked. Ejected the eight track, and now the radio doesn't work. I am guessing there is a mechanical switch that cuts the radio on/off when eight track is inserted/ejected.
However this switching works, can anyone offer some hints on what to look for?

Chuck, its likely some sort or electrical and mechanical linkage in the radio,remove the metal upper and lower plates off and take a look inside maybe a you'll see something that may need some light oil(3n1il).

I discovered that the eight track drive is still running when the tape is removed, so obviously the switch is not responding to removal of the tape.
I see a white switch-looking thingy on the left side of the roof of the tape receptacle. This part moves, but apparently is not functioning electrically. Anyone have any experience getting this contact to work without removing the unit? I know this is a stretch.
