    What's the purpose of this small bracket above #2 spark plug and in front of the exhaust manifold?

    1970 LS5 with AC (compressor removed in this photo).

        That looks like an oil pressure gauge line bracket.
        It is supposed to be bolted to the cylinder head at cylinder #7.

          Thanks Rick. That bracket is missing on the left head.

          I wonder if the cylinder heads were swapped left/right during overhaul...

            Yes, that looks like an oil line bracket (bent over). And yes, I would say that was mislocated because of the head swap left/right at some point in the car's past. The plastic oil line from the gauge enters the brass fitting with the compression fitting just above that, then there is a junction between that and the steel oil line and its fitting coming in from the block. The center of that junction slide into that notch in the bracket.
