This is all I use and is safer. Should it fail, it fails open.

Yes, I recommend those, too. If one ever experiences a thermostat failed closed, one will totally understand why this is a benefit. I had it happen once but not in a Corvette.

By the way, Corvettes using external bypass (i.e. all C2 with SHP as well as all big blocks), the effect of a failed thermostat is slightly less. The external bypass can carry more coolant around the thermostat than can the tiny internal bypass used for most small blocks.

Actually, I have read a couple of postings in the internet not being that positive about the quality of Mr. Gasket thermostats (overheating despite its design, opens too early). Now, I'm a bit confused robert shaw highly recommended, Mr. Gasket not .. but apparently the same.
I checked the robertshaw homepage but didn't find anything with regard to car thermostats.
So this time I ordered a Stout 180, which has received decent comments on amazon.com . I have to see which supplier ships robertshaw thermostats to Germany.

I don't think that Robertshaw manufactures these thermostats anymore. They are simply referred to as Robertshaw TYPE thermostats. Just what company or companies does manufacture them, perhaps under license from Robertshaw, I do not know. I suspect that whatever the shelf brand, the manufacturer is the same but, who knows?
