Which Sub-Optimal Tire Decision Should I Make For Judging?

Eventually (probably pretty soon) the aging Goodyear HP Ultras I currently have that are the correct size for my 1985 will become undriveable for my non-trailered car. Barring the sudden (and highly unexpected) availability of new Goodyear tires in the correct size, I'll have two options for judging:

    1) Non-Goodyear tires in the correct size

    2) Goodyear tires that fit on the correct wheels, but are the wrong size

Which choice will get me less eviscerated in judging?

John, what size are the tires, front and rear. I have listed 4 Goodyear tires and an extra set of driving rims I used for judging only on the NCRS FOR SALE cite. Check it out I used them on my base 1990.

Thank you, Ed. 1985 wheels and tires were smaller and I'm looking for tires I can safely drive a 100 miles or so on.

The 4 road tires are 24 originality points.

Choice #2 is a 70% or 18 points Standard Deduction.
Choice #1, I THINK, is a 100% Standard Deduction. It may be 90%, I don't have my book with me.

I suggest you go with Goodrich G-Sports. They should be available in 255/50-16. It's a great road tire for the price, and they will be 18 points.

        Cheers.
Dave makes a really good point that I have to internalize someday—because the tires are big and obvious, I'm over-weighting them in my calculations of what I need to fix/worry about. Funny, I'm really good at emphasizing "points per dollar" to newly-judged folks …

… sigh. I'll see if the Goodyear HP Ultra's pass state inspection. If they do, I'll drive them to Altoona. If not, I'll put the BF Goodrich G-Force Sport Comp-2's on, which I already !@#$% have (they're for when the car is in driving mode). Moving on to more important topics—and thanks, Dave.
