    1968 - Engine Compartment - Overspray

Is this red overspray typical for production or is this overspray from the respray that occurred in the 80s?

    Best regards,

    Jeff

I'm no 68 expert but I can say confidently the heater hoses were not installed prior to the car getting color... I surmise the over spray reflects a respray in some degree.

Black out and assembly were done after the body color was applied. Your photo indicates the work of others outside GM plant.

During that era almost 100% of the cars went back through the rework department to fix flaws in the finish

The hood hinge area indicates post assembly line activity.

How DARE you bring the Real World into this discussion - far better to keep it under the heading of "When St Louis Was Restoring Corvettes".

What was the occurrence of rework? I think Gary said between 140 and 220%. (Or something close to that.) 😉

John Hinckley said the St Louis plant was built for 120% paint rework. How much rework was done on any given car rests with the archeological work to be done by the owner. Ideally that would be the first owner, but in most cases that ship has sailed.

That looks like sloppy rub and buff work to me.

Yes, David, the silver is something that needs to be redone, too.
