    Reproduction t.i. coils any good?

Finished rebuilding my 69 1111928 distributor and connected the wire harnesss to the coil and the negative stud is loose even with the nut tight. The engine runs and doesn't misfire but I'm assuming I'm on borrowed time with the coil. I have what I think is a GM over the counter coil I bought decades ago. It does have the t.i. sticker, Delco Remy raised embossing on the top and a white 064 ink stamp. Anyway of determining if it is correct for my application other than ohming the primary windings? This leads to my original question: are the repro coils the vendors sell any good (the ones that come in the box printed with GM Restoration Parts)? I see a few on ebay boxed with part numbers 1115263, 1115261, 1115231, 1115207. Any difference other than the numbers? Thanks

If you do a search, or talk to Dave Fiedler at T.I. Specialty, you'll find that those "GM restoration" coils have a VERY high failure rate. Mine failed, as has pretty much everyone I know that has ever bought one. If the coil you have is working fine, use it.

Mark, Want a fix for your loose stud? Loctite should tighten it up. The green 290 or the red 291.
The 291 is the stronger and faster. A little goes a long way.
291 also goes by the Red Loctite at NAPA. Other stores may call it 291. Same stuff.
Seeing that I have a high paying job here at NCRS I don't make negative comments on repro parts.

I looked closely at the coil and the top is cracked on both sides of the stud. I got GM otc coil from Dave at T. I. Specialty. He bench tested it for 2 hours before shipping it. Arrived today. Dave is very helpful. Hopefully he comes to Carlisle so I can thank him again in person. I use plenty of green, blue, and red Loctite at work- I build production based Corvette race cars.
