We were able to get Gary Gove to the National in Las Vegas last week to witness his old race car receive The American Heritage award.

Gary Gove, who drove the 66 Alan Green Corvette was reunited with the car after 52 years.

This Car was raced most of 66 with the HD427, M22 and 36gal fuel tank. Gary won many races with this car during the 66 season. He was Northwest points Leader and raced in the End of Season Run Off at Riverside. Those of us who were at the National had a blast listening to Gary tell old racing stories. He had a great memory for racing details and always had a crowd around him.

I special ordered my SWC from Alan Green, and from '63 to '67 before I left Seattle spent at least one day a year during the summer hot lapping Kent, which was our "home track."

As the cars were moving out of the convention center a crowd gathered around the car as Gary fired it up. The sound of the headers and open side pipes reverberated off the walls and bought many big smiles.

Jonathan and I thought it was a great chance to reunite Gary with the car since it was so close for him. We also wanted to be able to get Dave Brigham and Bill Calorico to meet him. Gary and Bud were a big help in filling out the history of this car. I'm so glad he was able to come out and "Hold Court" telling all his old racing stories. He was definitely "Priceless" entertainment!

This just goes to prove what those of us who are getting long in the tooth already know: The people make the cars. this was a great opportunity to enhance the history of a great guy and a great car.

It was great to meet and speak with Gary. The highlight was watching him drive his old race car out of the building.

Joe, Great work in creating the "reunion" with this car and Gary! What history were you able to get after the car left Alan Green? Did they sell it after the season was over? I assume whomever bought it continued to race it in some way.

Although I had a small part in helping Joe (I work for him) bring this race car back to its original race condition , believe me when I tell you that Joe spent hundreds hours looking for the owner, race history, drivers information and any other info he could find.
He made phone calls, sent e-mails and wrote letters while doing his research.
Joe's dedication in making sure that the restoration that was done correct and true was showcased on the convention floor and deserving of the NCRS American Heritage Award.

We loved this car in Dearborn as well. The transport driver called me to verify the address, saying he had two Mustangs to drop off. I told him they might be two (very special) Corvettes...
