    66 BB rain shields

Can some one post a pic of installed 66 BB hood grill rain shields? having trouble understanding the orientation, is one mounted not using the "large hole".
    Thanks!

Not where I can post a picture. Believe larger hole is not used.

Thanks, that's what I think especially since there is not a PN for left or right and they appear to be identical. So one side uses the larger hole and the other does not? Does it matter which side uses the larger hole? can't seem to find it in the JG or AIM

I'm on the road, but I believe you are correct. There is a detailed drawing in 1965 AIM. I think '65 /'66 are same.

They are listed in the 1965 A.I.M. as 3878423-left and 3878424-right

Thanks! Someone told me the 65 AIM only listed one part #, I don't have access to the 65 AIM. So I must have two of the same side

Once you lay them out on the hood it should be obvious. The center hole on the shield is to clear the center grille bolt, the end grille bolts (or screw) attach both the shield and grille. The center holes are not evenly spaced so there is only one way they can go. If you try to put them on the wrong side I believe the shield hits the hood reinforcement.

They are shown on page E320 of the '65 AIM. Definitely a left and right #3878423 & 424. The originals on my '65 do not have a center hole. There are three attaching screws for each shield, one near the front for each side and two nearer the rear for each side. They cannot be interchanged as nor can the hood grilles as the screw attachment location must correspond with each other.

I stand corrected. The center screw attachment hole is a larger diameter than the front or rear holes.

                      That's how my originals are.

Thanks again for the replies! I now have right and left rain shields. They fit perfectly. Now I'm wondering if the "dum dum' should be applied liberally enough to "ooze" out the edges or apply sparingly?

I am just now installing the hood grills on my late 66. It has original paint and it surely does not appear the hood grills were ever off it when I removed them. You can see the ribbon of sealer on the hood yet where the rain shields install. It does not appear to have "oozed" out any place on the shields.
