My expansion valve appears to be brass or bronze. At this point it is a dark color. Does one 'polish' this valve or is the patina I see the original finish?
The strap appears to have originally been light grey phosphate (there was a 1/4" patch remaining on the interior). Is that correct?Jeff

I would just be happy if the TXV works correctly and is the right part for your car. I am not certain any judge will deduct for the finish in the photos. Maybe just wipe it down good with Prelube6 of another anti-corrosion product and be happy. Be sure inlet screen is installed in valve and is clean of any debris.
If unsure that it works correctly, there are bench tests available for use.
