    1968 clock

The current 68/69 judging guide says that the second hand on the clock should be white with the hour and minute hands in red, and numerals in green. I own a pretty original 68 #15742 and the clock second hand is green. I'm pretty sure it has never been removed. Do the early 68 clocks have a white second hand and if so approximately what VIN did they change to green? Or is the current guide incorrect? Rich

    Richard,

My nov ’67 built ‘68 has the second hand same color as numerals on face.

Color is not really green it’s greenish grey. But if one had to describe it there is no true color name to put on it. Definitely not white.

I looked at 3 68 clocks today. Mine is a July built car, L18. It looks as described above. I am pretty, pretty sure it’s original. The next was the same,. A car with a build date of H25. This is a restored car, A very nice L89. The next is H01. This one had numbers and a second hand of the same color, but the color was closer to white. The first two were clearly NOT white as compared with the white on the other gauges. This H01 car looked almost or dam close to the white on the other gauges. This car is unrestored.

The H01 car’s clock could have been faded.

My car has a trim tag date of February 16, 1968. The original clock is dated November 2, 1967. The second hand is the same color as the numerals, that is to say, slightly "greenish" in hue but definitely not white.

I have three 68's here at the house right now, must be like rabbits?

All three, one a new 4-star Bowtie, one a Bloomington Benchmark, the other a 24k mile car, have the second hand that matches the color of the numerals.

I think the white pointer might come from 72 when the numerals changed to white and that verbage just kept being brought into the new manuals.

          I changed the 68-69 TIM&JG to read:
The colors of the two hands and numerals on the clock face match the other instruments, but the second hand matches the color of the dial face lettering.

          Thanks for finding the error.

My 68 is a October, '67 build. No white but shade of green.

My '68 is a December '67 build. My clock hands are red but after looking at a picture I took of the center cluster of gauges and comparing all, the clock numbers and second hand look like they have a light green cast. It is very light green but there is a difference from the clock to the rest of the cluster gauges.
