Paint Daubs On 1973 and 1974 Corvettes Distributors

Someone once told me the only stupid question is the one you don't ask, so here it goes; Does anyone know if the paint daub color on the distributors in 1973 & 74 denotes a specific distributor application. Are they just inspection marks, indicating that they were tested or a procedure done?

They were specific distributor indication in 1968 to 1972. There is no reason that I know of for that to change after 1972. The 1973 and up judging manual revision team simply (and it isn't simple) has to do the research to establish what they are. I doubt they changed from 1972, so we can share for their research to begin, and then they can verify on low-mile examples.
