5 of the 6 previous Lifetime award recipients were standing on the podium to present John-boy with his lifetime award. none of us are more deserving than John. mike

I agree 100%, I am humbled to have been previously recognized and standing on the same podium as the other recipients, most of all, John.

Re: John Amgwert - lifetime Achievement Award

Back in the early days (mid-70’s) I would visit John at his home in Lincoln. He took me under his wing, encouraged me to write, allowed me to co-author several articles with him, and became a friend. I remember his pacing back and forth at Monterrey the night that he, Les, and Howard acquired 53 #003. His connections within and outside of GM are unsurpassed, and the research he did was second to none. (Witness the reprinted article in the most recent Restorer).
I was disappointed when I heard he would be at the convention, because our long-scheduled family reunion fell on exactly the same time and I would miss seeing him.
John was also the one who had the vision, strategy, and persistence to force the transition of the NCRS from a for-profit to the 501(c)3 non-profit that NCRS is now. It was important to him because he saw what the predecessor (Classic Corvette Club) had become under it’s owner.
        Absolutely deserving of the award!
Congratulations, John! Sorry I missed it.
        Mike

Re: John Amgwert - lifetime Achievement Award

It was my pleasure to stand with four of my esteemed colleagues and besties to present John with the NCRS LAA. I well remember my first meeting with him at Bloomington at the old County Fair Grounds. It ended abruptly when I told him of my interest in chrome bumper C3s, but those were almost new cars back then. There has been a lot of water under the bridge since then, and John has worked very hard for many years on behalf of all of us in NCRS.

I am especially glad we were able to get John to attend the Convention. That is a story in itself that took a lot of very fine people to achieve. The fact that the Award was a surprise to John was especially gratifying. We had some photos of John taken when we were all a lot younger and more agile, and many of us had more hair. Unfortunately technology got beyond all of us elder folks, but there is still hope for a viewing of them sometime in the future. I hope and expect we will see a lot more of John at future NCRS events.

Again my congratulations to John for an award well deserved.
          Terry

when he handed me the award. A legend he is.

CONGRATS John. We served together on the NAT BOARD in 1982-86. You taught me many things about the Corvette and introduced me to all the icons. Your WAGON MASTER Road tours were fantastic.

BEND OREGON in 1982 from Carson City, NV thru Crater Lake, COPPER MT. CO from Grand Canyon up thru the Painted Desert, to Durango, past Mesa Verde and up the ''MILLION $ HWY'' thru Silverton and Ohray were just breathtaking. MONTEREY 87 was a great NCRS event also.

It was great seeing you on Tuesday and Wednesday in LV. Sorry I missed Monday night. ''Life'' got in the way. I hope you attend more events in the future. Stay well my friend.
