    rear window weatherstrip

I am putting the rear window weatherstrip on my 70 coupe and it looks like there is supposed to be a fastener of some sort at the bottom. There is a hole in the weatherstrip and a corresponding hole in the body. This hole is fairly large. I don't see anything in the assembly manual but it looks like there was something mounted when looking at the backside of the hole in the body. Any help or pictures would be appreciated. Re: rear window weatherstrip

    Hello Howard,

The attached photo is of an over-the-counter GM service replacement weatherstrip, purchased in 1987 or 1988; I see no holes along any of it's surface.

Also, on our 1972 coupe, I see no fasteners going through the lower edge of the existing, strongly-suspected-to-be-original weatherstrip.

Is your weatherstrip GM or aftermarket? If GM, do you know when it was purchased?

Can you post a picture of yours?

I should have proof read my post a second time. I meant to say rear side window weatherstrip. I haven't gotten to the rear window weatherstrip but mine looks like yours. Sorry for the confusion. I did find the original rear side window weatherstrip for my car and it looks like it had a pop rivet at the bottom. I don't think a pop rivet would work on my new weatherstrip.

        Howard,
Ah; I see the same holes on the lower end of the weatherstrips on our car. They were both replaced by me in the mid-1990s, bur I have no recollection of a screw or other fastener. I prodded in the holes to see if I could feel a screw head, but I didn't hit anything resembling metal.
The GM parts catalog shows an illustration nearly identical to the one in the AIM; that is, no screw or fastener.
At this time, I can't tell you for certain one way or the other what, if anything, should be there.

I am going to look closer at the one I took off the car today but it felt like had metal in the bottom and the end of a pop rivet where I drilled it out. Should have take a picture before I removed it. I am sure it was original to the car.
