Re: C1 gas tank fit - AGAIN
I restored a 60 with a new tank in 2011 and it did not fit. I messed with it off and on for two weeks. Tried bending the pinch welds and everything. The reproduction simply did not fit. This was the Quanta tank that is supposed to be correct. Finally gave up and used a BFH.
Maybe in the last seven years, the design has been corrected!!Don Harris

Re: C1 gas tank fit - AGAIN
I had a devil of a time getting my Quanta tank in as well vs. the original which went right in. After bending the corners down and struggling with it for a while it went in okay. By the way, if you have a choice, get a '61 or '62 tank which has the baffles in it which might help with the design flaw of gas coming out the fill tube in a right hand turn.Keith MacRae

Re: C1 gas tank fit - AGAIN
I'm trying to fit a new Quanta tank into my 62. When I pulled off the tank access cover, I expected to see a build sheet on top of the old tank, but there was none. Therefore, I suspect the old tank was actually the 2nd tank. Anyway I can't get it to fit into the space. I wonder if I trimmed off the folded down metal, if it would then slide in? Has anybody tried that?
I sure don't want to ruin the tank.Attached Files____________________

Re: C1 gas tank fit - AGAIN
When I replaced the tank on my 60, I used the "correct" Quanta tank - didn't fit. I had to fine tune the flanges a bit with a hammer. It then dropped in without issue.
When I did the 58, I bought another quanta tank and expected to need to "tweek" the flanges like I did with the 60. Well after beating and banging on the flanges with a rubber mallet I ended up breaking out the BFH and a 2x4. it STILL would not fit. I ended up reparing and cleaning the original tank which fit like a glove.
I took some measurements between the two tanks and if I remember correctly the Quanta tank was about 1/4 to 3/8" larger in circumference then the original. Given the tight fit of a tank made to the correct size, no wonder it wouldn't go in.

Re: C1 gas tank fit - AGAIN
Yesterday I stopped at a small market to get a snack after a bike ride. I saw a nice Hudson Hornet outside. As I was taking a photo, the owner came out. He was wearing a Corvette hat. Turns out he has a 56. Asked him if he'd ever replaced the tank? Yes. He claims the tanks are different. I think the only difference is whether or not they have a vent tube and/or baffles. Called Quanta this morning. The person that answered is just looking it up, has never replaced a tank themselves.____________________
